Mount Sackville Secondary School

Swimming has always featured as a sport in Mount Sackville, with many national and international standard swimmers, including four currently on the Mount Sackville team. Our swimmers train with their clubs for provincial, national and international competitions as well as representing their school at such events. Their training hours range from six to ten two hour training sessions over the course of the week along with gym work before and/or after training. The swimming team in Mount Sackville is small in comparison to the other sports in our school. However all members are extremely talented and achieve outstanding results in this sport.

Mount Sackville fielded a small but talented Swimming Team in the 2017 Leinster Schools Championships on Sunday 8th January.

Swimmers competed in four events including Individual Events: Junior Girls 100 m Backstroke and Junior Girls 100 m Freestyle

Team Events: Junior Girls 4 X 50 Medley Team Relay and Junior Girls 4 X 50 Freestyle Relay.

A number of Personal Best times were recorded for these events as the Girls raced for their school.

The Relay Events proved to be very competitive with Mount Sackville racing in the fastest heats and placing well, just outside the medals.

The Swimming Team performed to a very high standard and have laid the foundations for some great Individual and Team successes in the future.

Keep training hard and we hope to achieve even more in the coming years.

Leinster Schools Championships 2014

Four girls competed at the Leinster School Championship on the 12th January 2014. Three girls from third year, Clodagh Walsh, Tara Middleton and Sarah McDonagh each competed in two events in the Under-16 category. Clodagh placed 5th in both her events, with Tara and Sarah not far behind her. Each of the girls performed at an extremely high standard, all achieving personal best times. Sixth year swimmer, Orla Walsh, competed in the Senior category, bringing home gold medals in both her events. She was also selected as one of the five girls in Leinster to swim the invitational event of 400 free. In a close race, she was narrowly beaten into silver medal position for Mount Sackville. Orla will now go forward to represent Leinster Schools at the Interprovincial Championships later in the year.

Well done to all the girls.

Leinster Swimming Senior Schools Championships

On the 21st of January 2013, seven girls headed out to the Tallaght Community Sports Centre for the Leinster Swimming Schools Championship. To start off the day we had Claire Diffley, 3rd year and Orla Walsh, 5th year in the 100m backcrawl both winning silver in their age group.

We then had Tara Middleton and Clodagh Walsh, both 2nd years, in the Junior category of the 100m freestyle with Tara getting a personal best of 1.12.50. In the Senior category, Áine Rushe, 4th year, Shauna McGinley and Orla Walsh, 5th years, put in a brilliant effort to get 7th, 5th and 2nd in the same event.

In the afternoon we had Orla Walsh competing in the 400m freestyle, an invitational event. She swam very well and finished in 2nd with a time of 4.40.96.  Sarah McDonagh, 2nd year, Clodagh Walsh and Claire Diffley swam in the 200m Individual Medley, a combination of all four strokes, butterfly, backcrawl, breaststroke and freestyle. Clodagh and Sarah swimming in the Junior category came 7th and 11th and Claire in the Intermediate category finishing in 2nd place with another personal best time of 2.30.58.

A fabulous day finished off with the relay events. The Intermediate age group relay team was made up of Sarah McDonagh, Tara Middleton, Clodagh Walsh and Claire Diffley. They swam exceptionally well in both the individual medley and freestyle relays.

The Senior relay team of Orla Walsh, Shauna McGinley, Clodagh Walsh and Claire Diffley was narrowly beaten by High School in both the freestyle and medley relays, finishing in 2nd place for both events.

It was a fabulous day with an amazing medal haul of eleven silver medals won representing Mount Sackville, five of which were achieved by Orla Walsh one of our Swimming Secretaries. Everyone swam fantastically, with great school spirit and we would like to say well done to all involved on the day!
