On Friday, 17th October, Mount Sackville was delighted to celebrate International Adolescent Health Week (IAHW), joining schools around the world in promoting the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of young people. It is the 9th Year of celebrating the IAHW and we were proud to be the first school in Ireland to be involved.

We were honoured to welcome Deputy Emer Currie (TD), Dr Ngozi Oketah, Consultant in Paediatrics, Adolescent Health and Eating Disorders, Dr Orla Walsh, Adolescent Medicine and General Paediatrician, and Suzanne Brady, member of the Irish IAHW Committee and mentor to the Irish Youth Ambassador. Together, they spoke with our students about the importance of adolescent health and encouraged open conversations on how to maintain balance and well-being during the teenage years. The students were encouraged to look after small things, value the importance of sleep and reach out if unwell.

At Mount Sackville, we are committed to supporting our students in developing healthy habits and positive lifestyles. Through subjects such as PE, Tutor Time, SPHE, Choir, CSPE, Drama, Religion, and Digital Literacy, students engage with a wide range of topics that promote well-being — from physical fitness and emotional resilience to creativity, digital awareness, and a sense of community connection.

To mark the occasion, some of our Transition Year students also prepared and shared healthy snacks including oat and seed bread, high fibre banana bread, flatjack bites, wholemeal bluberry muffins and fruit sticks, promoting the theme of nutritious eating and healthy living as part of the celebration.
