New Positive Action Leaders and Launch of Mix and Mingle
Today, we welcomed a number of New Positive Action Leaders who have volunteered to join our PAL team. The girls were presented with their badges at a lunch time meeting to plan Friendship Week in the school and to discuss plans for our fundraising event of Paint It Pink for Breast Cancer on 24th October.
Mix and Mingle
A new initiative was launched called Mix & Mingle.
The PALs encourage students to join them at lunchtimes on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays in room 247 where they can play board games, chat and perhaps make new friends. This will commence on Monday 13th of October.
If you need more information on PALs you may use the following:
PALs in Mount Sackville are students from first to sixth year who volunteer to work together to inspire their fellow students to promote a culture of positivity within the school community. They help to prevent bullying and ensure that students feel safe and supported in school.
What our PALs do
- educate their peers on the various forms of bullying behaviour.
- lead Anti-Bullying Campaigns and Workshops to encourage inclusivity and celebrate difference.
- advise their fellow students on Internet Safety (how to remain safe both on and offline).
- organise the Big Sister Programme in which every first-year student is paired with a Transition year student who acts as their big sister in school, offering advice, guidance and support.
- organise lunchtime activities to provide an opportunity to get to know their buddy/big sister or to meet a new friend and to have fun with their peers. These activities include board games, quizzes, gardening club, bingo and karaoke.
- work with members of staff in planning and arranging events to mark National Anti-Bullying Week (our Friendship Week), International Women’s Day, Internet Safety Day as well as other fundraising events.
- organise a ‘Compliment Day’ where affirmations and compliments are posted on student lockers e.g. at Mock exam time.
