This October our Transition Year students brought "Oklahoma" to stage. The musical originally produced by Rodgers and Hammerstein based on the play "Green Grow the Lilacs" by Lynn Riggs and with original choreography by Agnes de Mille, tells the story of Curly (played by Elianna Clancy), a charismatic cowboy and Laurey (played by Sarah E. O'Connor), a spirited farm girl. Their blossoming love is tested in a lively rivalry between cowboys and farmers as tensions rise and passions ignite and the sinister and frightening farmhand Jud Fry (played by Elissa Lawlor), tries to win Laurey's heart. Laurey and Curly are not the only ones trying to find their love, a flirtatious Ado Annie (played by Alanna Clancy), needs to choose between, Will (played by Grace Frawley) a confident cowboy that has just returned from Kansas City and Ali Hakim (played by Daisy Fitzpatrick) a persuasive Persian peddler. Set against the backdrop of a close-knit community and guided by Aunt Eller, a lady with outstanding strength and charisma, (played by Eva O'Donoghue), Oklahoma explores themes of love, loyalty, and the pursuit of dreams.
Our TY Event Management team designed the poster, promoted the musical and arranged the ticket sale. The tickets for this year production of TY Musical sold out within only a few days. The audience were treated to outstanding performance of cowboys and farmers and were instantly transformed to the Wild West by heartwarming songs such as "Oh What a Beautiful Morning" and "Oklahoma". They were entertained with jokes, fights and even gun shots. The costumes, staging and choreography awed everyone. The amazed audience cheered, clapped and applauded the performers with standing ovations at each performance. Special thanks to Becky Perez who choreographed the musical.
80 years after the musical premiered on Broadway, our Mount Sackville Producers Duo, Ms Dowling and Ms Gannon brought us a vivid, spectacular and engaging performance showcasing once more the talents of the Transition Year students. Huge congratulations and thank you to all the cast and the production team.
