It takes a great deal of courage to stand alone...’
Published in 1954, Twelve Angry Men by Reginald Rose is a play centred on the deliberation of a jury in a homicide trial. The entire play takes place in a shabby jury room in a courthouse in New York City where the twelve men are to determine the fate of a 16-year-old boy accused of murdering his father. If they have reasonable doubt, they are to acquit the boy. If the boy is convicted, he will face the death penalty. The courtroom drama explores the problems that can beset the American judicial system, from individual arrogance to racism and classism. As the temperature within the small, hot jury room intensifies, so too do the exchanges between the twelve jurors.
Mount Sackville TY drama class is excited to enthral you with their version of this play and to show you that there’s no better cast to bring Twelve Angry Men to the stage than twelve of our own talented women.

DIRECTOR’S NOTE
This cast is one of the most talented groups of young actors I have ever had the pleasure of working with, and I think their talent is abundantly clear from their performances. I have been consistently impressed by their work ethic, skill, positive mindset and commitment to turning up to rehearsals day after day (after day!) However, more than that, I am proud of the good humans they are becoming and how they are learning to be generous co-actors and to treat one another with kindness. It is such a pleasure to be around people who respect each other in this way and it is testament to how drama can bind a group together.
This skilful group has already proved themselves by winning third place in the Best Production category at the 2024 Briery Gap TY All Ireland Drama Festival in Cork Opera House and I am immensely proud of this achievement. However, I maintain that we do not need awards to tell us how good these actors are and no award will validate our production. We do theatre for the love of it and for the magic it creates through live performance.
I hope that our actors have learned this along the way and have realised how captivating they are when they perform together as an ensemble. For me, it was a pleasure to direct actors who have a natural ability and a willingness to learn. I pushed them to reach their full ability and they have risen to the challenge.
Of course, our TY drama class is not only comprised of our twelve actors, but of fourteen students in total; and a special mention must be given to three students in particular. Ruth has helped me throughout the school year with directing the production and is performing the essential and tricky role of lighting operator for our production. Alanna has moved from being an actor to being the sound operator and has done so with ease and professionalism. Finally, Emma has stood in for so many parts when actors were absent for rehearsal and did so with such good humour.
Thank you to you all!
