Press Pass Student Journalism and News Literacy Programme for Transition year students.

Mount Sackville transition year students all got the opportunity to enter the Press Pass competition with all English classes participating in this worthy initiative. We are very lucky to have one student,Ellie Raftery, who has made the short list for the final with her brilliant sports journalism piece. We wish Ellie the best of luck in the final.

The main aim of Press Pass is to encourage students to read and write more. Using newspapers as part of the daily curriculum, teachers and students can get a better understanding of news and current affairs and be exposed to a range of views and analysis-sometimes radical, sometimes infuriating, but always engaging and entertaining- to help them form opinions of their own.

We have selected a sample of student work from our transition year students which highlight the range of styles and skills that make a good journalistic news story. Congratulations to all the girls for entering this exciting literacy initiative.
