1st year

There are four Athena tracking moments during the year. These occur during a specified week of assessment in October, November, February and in May.

There are four Athena tracking moments during the year. These are a specified week for assessment in October , November, February and in May.

Athena tracking moments occur in October and November. Students sit February mock exams and June state examinations.

Science in TY

Sci-Fest

Students choosing this module will experience talks and presentations given by outside academics and experts from industry. They will be offered the opportunity to develop their interests by practical experimentation. They will also deliver their own science show and presentations in preparation for the actual Scifest event. The fundamental skills of science investigation are a key focus in this module and help prepare students for Senior Cycle science subjects and beyond. For more information see www.scifest.ie

Horticulture

It is a short taster course that provides students with an introduction to basic horticulture, garden design, planting of flowers, fruit and vegetables while also incorporating the idea of Sustainability. It also touches on the broader themes of the Leaving Certificate course Agricultural Science outlined below.

What skills will students develop?

  • Practical – Hands-on activities
  • Knowledge and Literacy skills – Reading researched information, use of websites Royal Horticultural Society
  • Inter-personal - Co-operation, Group Work
  • Research - Finding sources, extracting information
